Alexa has been having a rough past couple of weeks. We aren't sure exactly why but we think it's just her growing up and changing and also probably a
teensy weensy part has to do with Braden getting older and moving and wanting to play with toys now. I think it's been hard for her lately to listen to us and share with Braden and, you know, all those not so fun things that we want our 2 1/2 year old to do. So we are tyring to change up our parenting ways a little and find some new approaches to take (any suggestions on getting kids to listen would be
gold!) with her. One thing that we are trying to incorporate is some one on one time with her, so she is going to be going on a weekly date with either Mommy or Daddy. It doesn't have to be anything too fancy just some
good quality time alone with one of us for a little bit. Today was our first date night and we decided to go to the pet store and see what we could find. And guess what? We just happened to find
a little something.
Meet our new (official
very first Bignell family pet) fish: Inky-Do
She was so excited and just kept talking and talking...
"Mommy, is this the way to our date?"
"Are we on our date now?"
"I'm going to pick out a fish all by myself!"
"My fishy is going to be a girl."
"Her name is going to be Inky-Do, Mommy."
"Mommy, I loooooove you!"
"Where's my microphone?"
"I can't hear this song, I can't hear the song on the radio!"
Here's Alexa calling Grampa and Gramma and telling them ALL about her new pet on the way home. I'm not even sure they knew what she was talking about because there was just a lot of yelling going on.
Welcome to the family Inky-Do!
P.S. Please don't die tonight! Thanks!

great idea! hopefully she lasts the night!
I love the date idea. We have never officially done that but we have a lot of one on one with the kids. It makes such a HUGE difference in their behavior if they have that. I you want to email me bethanybishop@gmail, I'll send you my list of favorite parenting books.
You're such a great mom. I love reading here and am always encouraged and inspired by you. Thanks for letting us peep through the keyhole into your life.
I think one on one time is so important. I wish we could swing it more often with our three. It is treasured time. Cute fish. I hope it lives a long life for little Alexa!
okay, i love the pic of you two gorgeous red heads.
and alexa is only 2 1/2??!! wow! i guess i should have known that, but i always thought she was jude's age. she's only indi's age. indi turned two in april. she's a baby! it's really funny how your perspective changes on your kids' ages between your first and second. when jude was 2 1/2 we were like, "JUDE! you're 2 1/2 for pete's sake!" we cut indi a lot more slack. such is the plight of the first born!!! i know, i was one!!! :)
we bought two fish -- sushi and soup. soup died after a week. indi now says that he "lives in the toilet."
How sweet is that! I think date night is a fantastic idea. :) One of the best pieces of advice that I could give (only because someone told me) is to not get upset with her when she doesn't want to share. Find out WHY she doesn't want to share or find out what is wrong when she is throwing a fit. BUT with that being said sometimes they just need to scream and yell and for those times I leave Lauren on the floor! :)
Alexa needs one on one time with her Mommy and Daddy!!! Great Idea to do date night!!
Welcome to the family Inky-Do!!! :O)
Thanks for the follow and for the sweet comment! Your little ones are such sweeties! I hope Inky-Do lives longer than all of my pet fish did!
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but our fish (our one and only pet) lasted a mere 24 hours, if that. I'm hoping Inky-Do lives to be a wise old fish...
