I love the Fourth of July! It always reminds me of being out on the river and camping and hanging out with family. This Independence Day was definitely more mellow than the past but it was
so relaxing, just what we needed. I may or may not have taken a nap almost every day. :)
Matt took Friday off so we had 4 days to just hang out.
Friday we spent most of the day at the beach and the kids did awesome! It's nice that they are both old enough to be able to be there so long and enjoy it. Alexa got lots of swim practice and Braden just wanted to dig in the sand and bury his legs.
Saturday morning we packed up and headed to my brother and SIL's house for a parade. I'm not sure who was more excited the kids or me. I love watching them get so excited about catching candy, it's so cute!
Alexa never likes the beginning of parades, too many sirens...
What she does like...waving to all the princesses and getting necklaces!
Braden was hilarious, it didn't take him long to get the hang of things and before we knew it he was venturing to the middle of the road to get every piece of candy no one else wanted to go and get. It also didn't take long for him to realize that all that candy in his bag was actually
his to eat.
After the parade and a nap we went up to my parents house to hang out on the lake.
I realized 2 things that day:
First...Alexa has a need for speed. We went out for a boat ride and we were already going way too fast for this Mama's liking and there she sat in the front of the boat with my sister yelling, "Faster, Faster!!"
We are going to be in trouble with this one in the future.
And second...Braden is a pyro. We were lighting off fireworks and all he wanted to do was get a hold of the lighter, the fireworks, anything that he could get his hands on. He was straight up mad when Matt wouldn't let him get close to the action.
We could be in some trouble with him too.
Other than that the weekend was pretty boring, just the way we wanted it! Sunday we hung out at home and played in the pool and Monday we went back to the beach.
I was telling Matt I couldn't believe I went a year without having the kids all dressed up in red, white and blue on the fourth. In fact I went into Alexa's closet to try to find something she could wear at the last minute and the girl doesn't own one single piece of red clothing, it's just a sea of pink in there. Anyway, I took a year off but it won't happen again, I love dressing the kids up for holidays!
I can't believe it's already Wednesday tomorrow, I love short weeks!!
Have a good one! :)
